La Esperanza Vineyard and Winery is located in the enchanted Mimbres River Valley. The land was settled in 1906 by Don Antonio De La O, and now his granddaughter Esperanza and her husband David Gurule with great respect to their heritage are restoring the ranch to its original splendor along with their establishing a vineyard and winery.
The simple but eloquent sign telling visitors the location of the Winery is the beginning of an adventure that people seldom take in today’s world. Imagine going through a portal into another time and experiencing what it is like to encounter a merging of cultures and people from the original Mimbrenos to the early Hispanic and Anglo homesteaders. Sitting on a veranda and holding a glass of wine in this enchanting surrounds evokes thoughts of those who have preceded us (Antipasados). The rustling of the leaves on the willow and cottonwood trees along the Mimbres River makes one try to conceive the origins of those calm and haunting noises. Upon leaving this wonderful place, one realizes as they go back through the portal that those are the whispers of the Mimbreno Indians.
Many who visit this serene rancho are reminded of Tuscany, Italy but you are in the Mimbres. The climate, rolling hills and soil quenched by the adjacent Gallinas River, creates the perfect environment for growing a variety of quality wine grapes. La Esperanza Vineyard and Winery uses only the grapes grown at their vineyard to create the full complement of offerings.
Come visit and experience the tranquility of the valley, as well as the passion of the owners and savor in the delights of their efforts. David and Esperanza are most gracious hosts, continually welcoming new and familiar visitors to the newest and most unique winery in New Mexico.
